Why We Sing
Recollections From Choir Members
….one recollection I have with the QLC is of a Dinner Show where we were performing a number from Mama Mia. I had a wardrobe malfunction in the dark backstage, and realized the musical number had started without me. It was pretty hard to sneak on stage after our exasperated choir conducted had inquired aloud about my whereabouts!
…this being my first time singing in a choir, I have really felt that being a part of this group has helped me to find my inner voice and feel a tremendous appreciation for all the work that goes into a concert. Singing together is truly fulfilling and I find it lifts my spirits every time we practice. I sincerely thank you all for welcoming me!
…dancing aside, my favourite part of choir practice are those evenings when a glass of wine is also involved.
…being surrounded every week by so many talented women and getting to know them is a gift the choir gives me.
… singing with the Queenston Ladies Choir is an ongoing heartwarming experience. I have sung in choirs since I was seven years old. To make music with a group feeds my spirit and gives me joy. I love it. And this group is just the right amount of seriousness mixed with the right amount of fun!! Perfect!!
…a choir is not static. People come and go. One lady that has graced my path with the choir is no longer with us but comes to mind when asked to provide a memory of singing with QLC. She was always upbeat and cheerful. If you were around her, she always made you laugh or put a grin on your face. After any practice, no matter how grueling, she would be heard humming away. Her solos stole the show. She did not have an easy life but that was not something you would ever hear from her. Those of us who got to sing with her were truly blessed. We all deserve to know someone with a personality like hers where the music just oozes out of and lifts your spirits
…there has always been music in my life, church choir, school choir, music on the radio and even some musical instruments played. Music always coincided with happy times in my life! When a career and raising a family took center stage, music was still there - albeit in the background. My mother was a choir member well into her senior years and I could see what great pleasure it gave her. It was so inspiring to see how she and her friends could bring joy and smiles to the faces of others through song.
